ColourSpun In Stitches - Irish Mesh Stitch

This is a version of Irish Mesh stitch, a stitch pattern that is light and airy and perfect for summery cotton knits.

You will need:
ColourSpun yarn of your choice available from www.colourspun.com
Knitting needles about 2 sizes bigger than recommended to suite your yarn

Abbreviations
C/on cast on
C/off cast off
K knit
P purl
PSSO pass slipped stitch over
S1 Slip the next stitch
YO Yarn over

Instructions
C/on an even number of stitches
Row1: (S1; K1; YO; PSSO both) repeat to end
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: K1, (S1; K1; YO; PSSO both) repeat to last stitch; K1

Crochet hook - size to suit your yarn

ch chain
DC double crochet

Instructions

Start with a multiple of 3 chains.

Foundation row: 2 TR in the 3rd chain from the hook. *Skip 2 ch, 1 DC, 2TR in next ch Repeat from * to the end of row 1 ending with 1 DC in the last ch.

Pattern row: Chain 2, turn, 2 TR in first DC. **Skip 2 TR, 1DC and 2 TR in next DC Repeat from ** across ending with 1 DC in the top of the 1st 2 ch

Repeat Pattern row to desired length.

End off

Soft Chunky Cotton Chemo Cap

Worked up in the softest chunky cotton, these reverse stocking stitch chemo caps are a quick and easy knit and comfortable to wear on a sensitive scalp. Preferably knit in the round to avoid seaming, they can also be knit flat and seamed with a matrass/ladder stitch.

Continue working 1 st less between decreases, decreasing 6sts on every 2nd round/row until you have 6sts left
Next round/row: K2tog x3

Work a few rows of I-cord (optional)
**knit across
Slide the sts back across to the other end of the needle without turning and pull the yarn firmly across the back of your work
Repeat from ** until your cord is the required length.

Cut yarn (leave a long enough tail for seaming if necessary) and end off by threading through remaining sts and working tail in.

Optional - Embellish using Pure Cotton DK to embroider flowers etc.

Chemo Caps

I was asked on the Knitted Knockers South Africa FB group for a chemo cap pattern. Here is one in DK.


Ideal for wearing in warmer weather, this little cotton cap is worked in the round. Starting from the top it is quick to knit up on either 2 circular or a set of double pointed needles. Make it plain, add some stripes in different colours or work a motive using intarsia or Swiss darning - just be sure not to make knots when changing yarns so that the inside of the cap stays as smooth and soft as possible.

2 pairs 4mm circular needles or a set of 4mm double pointed needles
1 x 3.5mm crochet hook

Tension
22sts and 30 rows to 10cm measured over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.

Abbreviations
St/s – stitch/es K/k – knit P/p – purl
inc. – increase by knitting into the back and front of the next stitch


Pattern
Cast on 8 sts; divide evenly on needles and work in the round.
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: Knit, increasing into every st. - 16 sts.
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: K1; inc.; to end of round – 24sts
Round 5: Knit
Round 6: K2; inc.; to end of round – 32 sts
Continue increasing 8 sts on every 2nd round until you have 72 (96) sts
Work 31 (35) rounds straight and cast off loosely.

Work a row of single crochet around edge.

Crochet Button for top of cap
Make 4 chain and join to form a circle. Work single crochet into the centre of the circle until it is full. End off and attach to the top of the cap.

C/on a number of stitches divisible by 16
Row1 and all odd rows: Purl (wrong side)
Row 2, 4, 6, 8: (K8; M1; SKP; M1; SKP; M1; SKP; M1; SKP) to end
Row 10, 12, 14, 16: (M1; SKP; M1; SKP; M1; SKP; M1; SKP; K8) to end
These 16 rows make the pattern, knit until your work reaches the desired length.

ColourSpun In Stitches - Log Cabin

Using a modular knitting technique, knitted log cabin consists of a number of rectangular shapes worked one at a time and generally only using one ball of yarn at a time. If you choose you could work colour patterns into some of the rectangles, using either the intarsia or the fairisle method or you could add texture by using different stitch patterns.

Any yarn can be used, so long as the average weight is the same. There are no rules regarding the number of stitches to cast on or the number of rows for each rectangle – you choose. Once you have started, the length of the side you are knitting onto will determine the number of stitches you will need to pick up for the next rectangle, make sure that you pick up the stitches evenly to keep your work flat. Either weave the ends in as you go or use them to embellish your work with a bit of embroidery later. Remember to knit into the back of the 1st stitch of every row and to slip the last stitch purl wise, this makes picking up stitches much easier.

Instructions
Cast on any number of stitches – (I started with 10) and work either a square or a rectangular shape (about 15 – 20 rows) cast off.
**Pick up stitches evenly along one side of your work and knit a number of rows (6 or 7). Cast off**
Repeat from ** to ** until your block is the size you want it to be.
